Viacom v. Google

This is insane.
Google will have to turn over every record of every video watched by YouTube users, including users’ names and IP addresses, to Viacom, which is suing Google for allowing clips of its copyright videos to appear on YouTube, a judge ruled Wednesday.
While I recognize Viacom has a right to protect its copyright, this is absolutely insane and a total violation of every youtube users privacy. I watched a clip from a South Park episode on youtube once, does that mean that I’m going to get a DMCA notice? or sued? When will they learn???

seriously, actually insane. what do they plan on accomplishing through this move? this is worse than when the RIAA was shaking down college campuses - although maybe that will be a model for Viacom to learn from?

no comment. And by no commment, I mean 'no comment'.
such a bummer that Viacom is taking it this far, sharing content w/ the world used 2 be a wonderful way 2 spread the good word about quality content but all of that is coming 2 an end thx 2 corporate greed. Thank the world 4 bands like the grateful dead & phish who used free tape trading of live concerts as a quality way 2 build their following. A bit of trust & loyalty goes a long way in this world. Wish viacom could remember that, not every show is an instant hit.
